This post is to formally announce and inform you that as of Friday, August 24th the Fargo Basketball Academy was sold to new owners, Josh and Katie Johnson.
I’m thrilled to have found new owners who are as passionate about developing youth basketball skills as I am. I know that Josh’s love for the game and desire to provide personalized basketball growth opportunities for players in this region will be the cornerstone for continued growth and success.  I’m confident that you’ll continue to see the highest level of basketball skills instruction plus the addition of new ideas and programs.

And although the change in ownership will bring about some changes, much will remain the same. Current instructors Rory White, Matt Peterson and Gilby Sanchez will continue to provide personalized instruction to ensure the greatest outcomes for your child.

I will be staying on through the month of September in a transition role and then will formally “retire” as a basketball instructor at the Fargo Basketball Academy. I will certainly miss the interaction and relationships with so many incredible youth, that I’ve had the opportunity to instruct and coach. I have truly been blessed.  But I’m looking forward to a new role of sitting in the bleachers, and watching so many of the kids I’ve taught, use their talents on the basketball court. Thank you so much for trusting me with your children over the past 10 years – it truly has been a pleasure. God bless all of you!

-Tom Wilberscheid

Meet the new owner Josh Johnson:

My passion for the game of basketball was discovered at a very young age as my father was a head varsity basketball coach in a rural Washington town.  As early as age two, I was often found in the gym watching and participating in his practices.  Likewise, most of my childhood was spent in the gym playing and practicing basketball.  After high school I was fortunate to receive a few offers to play basketball, eventually selecting the local team at Wenatchee Valley College, before transferring to Washington State University to pursue a degree in education.  In college, I had my first taste of coaching while assisting a local basketball program; here I found that my enthusiasm for coaching matched what I had felt as a player.

This experience proved invaluable as I sought out full-time teaching and varsity basketball coaching positions.  Over the years, I accepted teaching roles in Grand Coulee, WA and Vancouver, WA while coaching varsity teams that merited great success.   Within these systems, my role extended beyond typical coaching responsibilities to include involvement in instructional camps and assistance in facilitating competitive AAU games and tournaments.
After marrying a Fargo native, I relocated to the area in 2005 and established Dakota Prep Basketball.  Our business specialized in organizing youth basketball tournaments for local school-aged players.  Dakota Prep Basketball grew quickly with high-quality, well organized tournaments and was recognized by the North Dakota girls AAU program to host their national qualifying tournaments.   During this time, I also taught and coached at Oak Grove and offered trainings for one-on-one skill development.

As a husband and father to two sports-enthusiast boys, I am extremely excited to be able to positively impact children through sports via Fargo Basketball Academy.  I cannot thank Tom Wilberscheid enough for the opportunity to be a part of what he has created these past 10 years and to continue his vision.  Fargo Basketball Academy will remain an enjoyable and effective outlet for players to learn fundamentals and grow their passion for the game of basketball.
